Review Week 5

This design shows texture.  It looks like a weave texture and its colorful and could be a little 3D.  This texture enhances the design because gives it a creative and unique design.  This is a great example of texture!

This design is representing shape.  The design shows a teardrop type shape.  The teardrop shape enhances this design because it is not just a boring colorless circle.  It gives a relaxing feeling to the design poster.

This design poster shows value.  It enhances the design because the focus is all on the eye.  You can't help looking at the eye!  It captures the attention of the audience and that makes this a good design.

This design shows space.  Its a good example of space because of the way the design is set up.  Everything is kind of circling around the words and pointing to it.  You can tell what the focus of the design is.  Its also colorful and very creative.  It enhances the design because without space it might be colorless and boring and arranged in a weird way.

This design represents the line part of designs.  It enhances this design because the way everything is placed and all the lines show and get the meaning of the design across.  Its creative and colorful and not boring to look at!

Review Week 4

Why/how can icons be used to communicate?
Icons can be used to communicate visually like on the side of the road.  Pedestrian crossing signs don't have any words on them, its just the visual icon that sends the message to cars to stop for the pedestrian to walk.

What is the difference between copyright and public domain?
Copyright is when someone has rights over a piece of work and you can't steal it and use it.  Public Domain means you can use it and not get in trouble for it.

How can you avoid plagairism in this class? In other classes?
I can avoid plagairism in this class by siting where i get my information and other pieces of work.  I can avoid it in other classes by doing the same thing.

Review Week 3

What is OSHA? What do the letters stand for?
   Occupational Safety & Health Administration

How can graphic designers effectively communicate? In your own words, explain the communication process.
Graphic Designers can communicate visually with their designs.  If the design is good then it should come across easy to read and know what the point and meaning of the design was.

Understanding the history, culture and movements of fine and graphic arts will make you a better producer of visual messages. Why?
You will be a better producer of visual messages when you can understand the history, culture, and movements of fine and graphic arts because you will be able to make designs fitted for all cultures and the message you are trying to get across will be easier to understand to all.

Watch the podcast. Answer the review questions below. Keep the question italicized and the answer regular.

What does it take to create good graphic design?
         New computer&software
         Conveys Information
         Pleasing the eye
What is the difference between elements and principles?
Elements- components or parts which can be isolated in any visual or design/actual things we add to a design
Principles- tell us how we can organize those elements on a page or screen
Name the six (6) elements of design.
         Line                           Space                           Color
         Texture                           Value                           Shape/Form
What can lines aid in, when alone or combined with other lines or shapes?
Readability                  Appearance                  Message of a Design

Which lines suggest a feeling of rest? Why do you think?
Horizontal Lines- suggest a feeling of rest in relation to gravity

Vertical lines communicate a feeling of what? Why do you think?
Vertical Lines- communicate a feeling of loftiness

What lines suggest a feeling of movement? Why do you think?
Diagonal Lines- suggest a feeling of movement or direction, unstable in relation to gravity
Soft, shallow curved lines suggest what? Why do you think?
Soft shallow curves suggest comfort, safety, relaxation

These lines suggest confusion and turbulence? Why do you think?
Deep, Acute curves- suggest confusion, turbulence as in violence of waves in a storm

What element defines a specific area of space?
         Shapes

What is the difference between two dimensional shapes and three dimensional shapes?
         2D- width and height
         3D- width, height & DEPTH
Describe the difference between geometric shapes and organic shapes?
Geometric- structures often symmetrical shapes (ex. Squares, circles, triangles, octogons, hexagons & cones)
Organic- found in nature or they can be man-made shapes, often irregular&fluid (ex. Leaves)
What are abstract shapes?
